time...

My baby boy got his school uniform yesterday. He proudly put it on and modelled it for us all - backpack on, lunch box at the ready. Seriously, where HAS the time gone? It appears to have slipped through my fingers and slunk out the door when I wasn't looking. Perhaps I should put up a sign on all the electricity poles and local shop windows, simply reading "LOST. Time". It probably won't return, nor do I expect anyone to called to say they have found it. Looks like it has gone forever.

Yes the time slips away while we are busy doing the washing up.... and suddenly they are 'all-growed-up' and wriggling to get away from us....

I did the same with Amelie today too. I couldn't help but get a lump in my throat at seeing her in her slightly baggy shirt, and typical wide-brimmed sun hat.

I can remember how the shirt looked kind of loose on Caleb too, when he started, but by the end of their first year, they seem to have grown... no longer the littlies, but wise school goers, who now fit in withe rest.

Be prepared, once they start school, time seems to speed up. Caleb is already in Year 4! Sigh... What can we do, but treasure the moments...?

Take photos. I have pictures of S., taken in the same location, on the first day of each school year.

...til he got older and annoyed and I had to stop

Oh yes, it does fly - except when you are that age and in school, apparently!

Good luck on the initial voyage. Are they doing anything at school for the mothers? Our old school had a "coffee and kleenex" morning for the newbies mums organised by mothers of older kids and it was very much appreciated.

What a brilliant concept Jeanie - "coffee and a kleenex". I love it! Unfortunately however, I doubt they have anything like that. I certainly haven't heard of any such event for the newbies, woudl have been nice though - a chance to break the ice with some of the other Mums. Guess I'll have to do it the old fashioned way and muster the courage to say Hi while we wait for the home time bell.

Ah yes, the waiting at the gate brigade - give a few smiles out gratis on the first day drop off and you will reap many benefits from that club!
